We’re delighted to be premiering the new video of Matt Emery’s cello-led reimagining of Idles ‘Never Fight a Man with a Perm’. The reworking is part of the composer’s ‘Recomposed Singles Series’ which also saw him arrange cello quartet covers of tracks by Mac DeMarco, The Korgis, David Zowie and Arlo Parks.

On the Idles cover, Matt transforms the raucous riffs, clattering drums and feroicious screams of Joe Talbot into something more delicate and, at times, heartbreaking. The plucked cello during the opening minute has elements of old folk tales while the chorus remains just as defiant as in the original. It’s a stirring and passionate piece that adds a classical touch to one of Idles’ signature tunes.
