a forest – a creative collective formed around solo artist and songwriter Matt Hughes, but with plenty of guidance and support from Arcane Roots’ Andrew Groves – have shared debut single ‘Something I Need’ following its debut play by Daniel P Carter on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show.

Taking influence from Mark Lanegan, The Japanese House and Paul Simon, the track opens in sparser, ‘Nebraska’-esque fashion as Matt recalls picking up a phone call which found him and a loved one at ‘their very worst’. As the guitar hooks come chiming in, Matt talks about pain and regrets (‘We don’t talk any more, I’m the one that closed the door’), before facing up to the issues and pleading – against an anthemic backing: ‘Don’t stop talking to me, this is something I need’
