A four-piece from Philadelphia signed to Topshelf Records, ‘Burden Piece’ is Clique’s second album. Already a cult favourite (which Topshelf band isn’t?), will it see them continue to gain more and more fans? Their tours with Modern Baseball and Sorority Noise will surely have helped and now these new fans can hear 13 new songs.…
The Hotelier’s 2014 album ‘Home, Like NoPlace is There’ brought them to the attention of a rabid, adoring fan base. With deeply personal lyrics and stirring anthemic music, they sit happily alongside the likes of recent tour mates Into It. Over It. and The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid…
Out in the United States this week but not until 29 April in the UK and Europe, the new album from Into It. Over It. ranked as one of our most eagerly awaited releases of 2016. Ever since ‘Intersections’ saw Evan Weiss’ project take to another level, fans have been wanting to hear more Into…
Basia Bulat is a cult favourite who has gathered fans all over the world due to her autoharp playing and folk-tinged, deeply personal songs. When she unveiled ‘Fool’ on Soundcloud a few weeks ago, it was a surprise to many as she appeared to have gone into a more soulful and ‘60s-inspired place – and…
Now onto her fourth album, New York native Laura Stevenson has time and time again showed a punk-rock spirit in her songs alongside a spiky sense of humour and sharp tongue. Calling her latest record ‘Cocksure’ might have been slightly tongue-in-cheek, but when listening to it you realise how confident she should be with its…
Signed to Super Fan 99 Records, we had high hopes for Matt McKee, especially as the press release referenced the likes of Evan Dando and Elliott Smith. When we were lucky enough to see Matt at the recent all-dayer at Aldershot’s West End Centre, we were mesmerised. Soul-searching songs and self-depreciating wit, the whole crowd…
Washington D.C. native Laura Burhenn’s The Mynabirds project is now onto its third album and her sound is as refreshingly vital and vigorous as ever. Having spent a year on the road with the Postal Service, it quickly becomes apparent she’s taken their love of synths and gorgeous hooks and implemented it further into her…
Foals have always excelled in whatever genre they’ve dipped into. From the amazing pre-‘Antidotes’ tracks of ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Try This On Your Piano’ to their almost-resurrection of nu-metal on ‘Inhaler’, there’s always been something a bit special about the Oxford five-piece. Now they arrive at their fourth album and hopes are high. They turned down…
A favourite with Goldflakepaint who has signed to Jagjaguwar (Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten), when we first heard Briana Marela we were left with goosebumps by her gorgeous, glacial voice. A Washington native, she headed over to Iceland to record debut album ‘All Around Us’ with Sigur Rós producer Alex Somers. With strings arranged by…
We’ve covered it recently and it’s been on repeat ever since, ‘Ollie North’ opens Donovan Wolfington‘s new record with its drug-reference lyrics, addictive hooks and ‘On a Rope’-style ending – it’s a hell of a way to announce your arrival. Following this up is ‘Basalisk’, a song that showcases a grungier and altogether dirtier side…
