The Cottonettes – ‘Call Me’ stream

Guildford’s finest purveyors of three-minute indie-pop songs, The Cottonettes have shared their new single ‘Call Me’ – and it might just be their best song yet. Recorded by Paul Tipler (who counts Reuben and Idlewild among his previous clients), the brash and confident song is described by the band as an ‘upbeat ditty about an anti-climactic romance’. Asking ‘Where we’re gonna drink and where we’re gonna screw’, the trio also wonder out loud about where things went wrong: ‘I thought you liked me too’ becoming a catchy, memorable line throughout the entire track. Opening with Adam Broadbent’s pacy drumming, the spiky Buzzcocks-esque guitar quickly joins the fray while the jaunty and playful melody is endlessly appealing – it’s a perfect slice of punk.
