Leeds-based four-piece follow up the powerful ‘R&B’ with new single, ‘Wallace’, a Theo Verney-produced song that the band describe as ‘an apocalyptic monologue about what happens when people listen to Wallace Hartley, the band-leader of the Titanic, as a distraction to the sinking of the ship. Born in my hometown, his name is stretched across the door of our local Wetherspoons – thinking about the irony of this got me wrapped up in how the metaphor perfectly expressed my feelings towards the political leanings of the area and the general rise of the right-wing in modern England.’

It opens with Lily Fontaine talking about someone who continues to bring up religion and politics in public and how we ‘got you drunk enough to promise us that you’d quit’ before telling the subject in forthright terms that they are on a sinking ship – against a backdrop of Slint-esque art rock guitar hooks. There’s a breakdown halfway through that offers some respite from the frustrations of living in a predominantly right-wing country, before the song comes to a close in a crescendo of swirling guitar-driven noise.
