Wednesday have shared ‘Pick Up That Knife’ ahead of the release of new album ‘Bleeds’ on 19 September via Dead Oceans. The band have also announced tour dates for the autumn.

Inspired by the ‘feelings of helplessness, when every minor inconvenience hurts double because you’re close to giving up’ and the time their pedal steel player Xandy threw up in a Death Grips moshpit at Primavera, the song opens with slacker vibes as Karly Haltzman laments the fact she ‘parked too close to someone to get out’ and vowing to kill the ‘bitch inside my brain’.

There’s all kinds of scuzzy, fuzzed-up interludes between the more traditional Conor Oberst-esque alt-folk sound – and a defiance running through: ‘When you pick up that knife, you’re asking for a fight’
