Arcane Roots – ‘A Wave, Across the Sea’

Now expanded to a five piece, Arcane Roots have made a welcome return with the release of ‘A Wave, Across the Sea’ – the band’s first new music since 2018.

Opening with swathes of feedback and gentle but eerie piano that has a touch of Radiohead in it, the song finds guitarist and Andrew Groves ruminating on someone else’s thoughts and feelings: ‘Now I know why you call for me, thinking I was there’. As the song moves along, it veers from Mew-style melancholy to glitchy moments and even a touch of prog – before a bombastic breakdown with crashing drums, hearty and healthy screams and crunchy riffs that recall Oceansize or Reuben.

Arcane Roots live 2026:
July 8th – 11th – 2000trees Festival (two sets)
August 19th – 22nd – ArcTanGent Festival
