Twat Union – ‘Don’t Blame the Peach’ EP review

Alcopop! Records signings Twat Union are set to release their second EP ‘Don’t Blame the Peach’ on 20 February, 2026 – although as far as we can tell, it does not have anything to do with Timothee Chalamet’s (in)famous scene in Call Me By Your Name. The new EP follows last year’s ‘Don’t Look It in the Eye’ and some unforgettable live shows.

The band say ‘laughter mixed with rage and some heavy riffs is not only a good time, but an excellent recipe for letting off steam’ and this runs throughout the new EP. Opener ‘WFH’ may start with snippets of conversations between colleagues about where they’re gong to work but things soon become more adult, as they talk about what some people really do in a remote-first job: ‘Are you working from home? Are you wanking from home?’ This is delivered against Joan Jett-esque riffs as Kate Mac continues to consider her working responsibilities and how she’ll achieve ‘My KPIs – my kinky porn intake’.

‘Tiny Shorts’ follows with a more scuzzy bass-led intro and talk of ‘feminist stuff’ alongside ‘tiny little shorts, really big thoughts’. There’s a relentless guitar hook running though as Kate demands ‘honk if you’re hungry to hear my thoughts on gender equity’, before ‘Period Sex’ moves into the electronic space that serves Adult DVD and CLT DRP so well. This song finds Kate recalling her dates in Eddie Argos fashion, recalling how her suitor got her a towel but then subsequently moved it, leaving the morning after looking like a murder scene: ‘Am I supposed to buy a new sheet?’

‘Pay Me More’ takes aim at the gender pay gap, but with the self-realisation that she’ll end up apologising when she asks to be paid what she’s worth: ‘Let’s not beat around the bush when we’re talking about pay. That’s the problem because my bush seems to get in the way’. The closing ‘W.I.T.C.H’ has a touch of Lambrini Girls as the band rally against men who tell them to ‘cheer up love, it might never happen’ and partake in a witch cackling competition: ‘Scaring folks with feminist jokes is the only way I’m seen’.

‘Don’t Blame the Peach’ is a timely and terrific set of songs with a funny feminist edge. After hearing it, you’ll want to sign up to Twat Union today.
