Tori Amos has shared ‘Stronger Together’ ahead of the release of new album ‘In Times of Dragons’ on 1 May via Universal/Fontana. The album’s tracks are based around 10 distinct characters that reflect the uncertain times we live in right now, with ‘Stronger Together’ introducing The Daughter. Fittingly, the track features backing vocals from Tori’s own daughter, Tash.
Tori says the song reflects on one of the characters the protagonist meets on her escape from a ‘sadistic billionaire Lizard Husband’, finding joy and solace as they spend time and sing together: ”Stronger Together’ is the culmination of our relationship as it is transformed with The Daughter choosing to stand by me no matter what challenges lay ahead. Whatever we will face in the future, we make a vow to each other that we’re Stronger Together.’
Beginning with electronic effects, Tori’s vocals come gliding in over the beats as she talks about her and The Daughter facing ‘diabolical crimes’ and being ‘trapped in darkness’. As the duo declare they’re stronger together – ‘We found we could tackle it, we could talk about it and we could cry about it’ – the dreamy soundscape has a touch of Perfume Genius. Following this, there’s a call-and-response between Tori and Tash (‘Now that I’m a woman’) as the iconic piano notes come rushing in, backed by powerful drums and an emotive flourish.
