American Football have previewed LP4 with the release of 8-minute epic ‘Bad Moons’. Originally written as two separate reacks, the first section is built around a sample of a gentle harp strum as Mike Kinsella ponders over past misdemeanours and the hurt they’ve caused: ‘Surprise, I’ve been so many boys in this trenchcoat. Ask my ex-wife, she met Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’.

As the song heads past the halfway point, Mike’s confessions become increasingly eye-opening and intimate as the instrumentation gets ever more fraught, fuzzy and darkly tinged: ‘I lost my mind in the dark, I told all my lies in the dark, I poured my drinks in the dark, I explored new kinks in the dark, I found every vein in the dark, I hid my shame in the dark, I got turned on in the dark, I was so far gone in the dark’.
