Hampshire trio Uncle Junior release their debut single ‘Melt Me’ ahead of tours supporting Man/Woman/Chainsaw and Tooth over the next couple of months. Even before releasing this song, the band – made up of Oli Noble, Eric Rye Lees and Isaac West – has been featured on Crack and BBC Radio 6 Music. They’ve also shared stages with the likes of Sorry, Adult DVD and Alien Chicks.

Recorded in rural France, the band say it’s the first four-chord ‘pop’ song they’ve penned as a trio. Its sharp mix of scuzzy guitar and potent piano notes match the classic songwriting warmth of The Lemon Twigs with baroque elements and the looser stylings of Divorce or Black Country, New Road – with an undercurrent akin to The Lemonheads thrown in for good measure.

The band says the ‘lyrics are a look into the way that one holds memories of lost time and how this affects your self-image’. These powerful and evocative recollections – ‘I am just the surgery you had when you were young’ – provide some extra pathos. And maybe a few tears for times gone by.
