Dutch Uncles – ‘No Note’

Manchester’s art pop favourites Dutch Uncles make a welcome return with ‘No Note’, the first single to be taken from upcoming seventh album ‘Polygon Hotel’ (out via Memphis Industries on 19 February, 2027).

While the video for the song feature early PlayStation-inspired graphics by Miles Buckle, the lyrics take aim at how much time we all spend on our phones – especially scrolling through social media, with frontman Duncan Wallis reiterating ‘just for it to be snatched up and controlled by the worst people imaginable’: ‘Begin to end, it blow up in my hand. Again? Goddamn! No note for that’

Opening with an experimental marimba loop more in line with Brian Eno or Philip Glass, it soon morphs into the catchy, off-centre hooks we’ve come to expect from the now-expanded six piece. There’s the inevitable groove – it wouldn’t be a Dutch Uncles song if Duncan couldn’t dance to it – and an expertly abrupt finish that leaves you wanting more.
