The Xcerts have unveiled ‘Daydream’, the second single from their upcoming fourth album, and it’s two and a half minutes of pure pop tinged with just a hint of heartbreak. Taking inspiration more than ever from classic songwriters like Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen and throwing in touches of surf-pop and piano, it opens with Murray Macleod singing about taking it slow and asking whether there’s ‘beauty in pain’ before declaring ‘it was a daydream, baby’ over and over again. It’s a song that won’t fail to put a smile on your face.

The Xcerts kick off their UK tour at the end of the month (we’ll see you all at the Scala, yeah?):
