Benjamin Shaw has announced details of his first ever live album. A cult artist who now resides in Melbourne, Australia, the performance was his first in five years and took place at a church in Krems, Austria for donaufestival 2019.

Throughout the record, Benjamin reimagines material from his extensive back catalogue with glitches, synthesisers and samples – and you can hear all of these on ‘A Brand New Day’ – a song that has heartbreaking lyrics including ‘a belly full of grey, a big bowl of sadness’.

Combining the fragility of Wayne Coyne’s vocals with shimmering touches of Sparklehorse and the poignancy of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone as Benjamin says ‘goodbye forever’, this performance captures the quiet, experimental power of this master of outsider pop, even if he does claim ‘it’s like I have a mini-breakdown between each song…’ on the record.

The ‘Live at donaufestival’ album is released on 27 September and available to pre-order here.
