Alf Whitby – ‘Lighthouse’

Alf Whitby Lighthouse My Little Empire Records stream

My Little Empire Records’ latest signing Alf Whitby (formerly of easykill) has shared ‘Lighthouse’ ahead of the release of debut solo album ‘Sistine Dreams’ early next year.

Fitting nicely next to singer-songwriters including Conor Oberst and Elliott Smith, we also heard elements of Wild Beasts’ Hayden Thorpe’s solo material in Alf’s delicate falsetto and the much-missed Dry the River in the poignant and wailing guitar work. The song was written by Alf when he was ‘a comfortable 20-something, ill-content with everything and scrambling to figure out who I was’ and this theme of trying to find your place is one that resonates right into your mid-30s (at least…)

Alf’s powerful vocals act as a cry for help and reassurance and make you want to give the man the biggest of hugs: ‘I’m calling out, as the waves crash all around, a doppler shift, and I’m helpless and adrift’; ‘I feel theres something missing. I hope i’m right.’
