London indie-rockers Happyness have returned with ‘Vegetable’ – their first new music in three years. Their upcoming new album explores the band members’ innermost thoughts following a break-up and drummer Ash Kenazi’s decision to stay true to himself and perform in drag – a brave move in some indie-rock circles.
The song itself has what Jonny describes as ‘a bit of a dstructive triumph vibe. Like a phoenix from the fucking ashes vibe’ with more of a Pavement-esque tone in the guitar hooks than the band have gone for before. Jonny sings about being ‘bound for nothing’ and being ‘barely something’ while the askew guitars and drums swirl around as he defeats this bout of sadness.
