Snow Coats – ‘Pool Girl’

New Alcopop! signings Snow Coats have shared ‘Pool Girl’, the first single to be taken from their forthcoming  debut EP of the same name (out 11 September). The Dutch four-piece’s vocalist and guitarist Anouk va der Kamp says the song is ‘about how I reflect on myself. Some silly things and some more serious. Like my anxieties and how I can panic over the smallest things’.

Falling somewhere in the sweet spot between The Spinto Band, Real Estate and Tigers Jaw, it’s the kind of song that – in an alternative reality – would be soundtracking the festival season. Amidst a slew of upbeat melodic harmonies and a wave of nostalgia, Anouk examines her actions (‘I would say that I’m a pool girl while all my friends swim in the ocean and see the world’; ‘If I can’t be as cool as you, I’ll be the nerd’) and compares her actions to others: Where there is smoke I see fire and gasoline’.
