Merpire – ‘Dinosaur’

Merpire (also known as Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt) has shared new single ‘Dinosaur’ – a Soccer Mommy-meets-Basia Bulat-style song that was written on the ukulele after playing covers of Toro Y Moi and Unknown Mortal Orchestra songs. It was inspired by Sam Neill’s line in Jurassic Park – ‘If you stay still, they can’t see you’ – but adapted into a setting of when social anxiety takes over and you wish you could do the same with other humans: ‘Dinosaur, Dinosaur. He wouldn’t know that I exist. I wish we were the same. Oh now, we’re just the opposite. Hide away again.’; ‘I made the cage I’m in. Im blinded by nothing. I’m tired of my skin’
