Mumble Tide – ‘Sucker’

Bristol-based bedroom pop duo (and real-life couple – they met through Gumtree when Gina Leonard put out an advert for a bassist and also ended up with a boyfriend in Ryan Rogers) Mumble Tide have shared new single ‘Sucker’ via Nothing Fancy Records. Already a favourite of Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq and our friends over at For the Rabbits, the new single finds the band embracing their inner spoilt teenager, saying it’s about ‘throwing the baggage off your shoulders and strutting away’.

You can hear this freedom in the slacker stylings that fit somewhere between Guided by Voices, early Blood Red Shoes and Lucy Dacus’s more upbeat moments as Gina talks about not liking the look of those dumb kids. There are also garage rock vibes running throughout the three and a half minutes, and who doesn’t want to join in with the song’s defining statement: ‘So long, so long, sucker’.
