Porridge Radio have shared their takes on Wolf Parade’s ‘You Are a Runner and I am My Father’s Son’ and The Shins’ ‘New Slang’ as part of Sub Pop’s Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 6. Regarding the choice of covers, Dana Margolin says ‘Sub Pop are a label I’ve loved for a long time, and when they asked if we wanted to release some songs with them this summer, I looked through their back catalogue and chose two songs to cover that had a big impact on me as a teenager.’

While staying true to the spirit of both original versions, the band definitely add their own stamp to each – with the sparse nature and intense backing vocals of ‘You Are a Runner and I am My Father’s Son’ adding an extra layer of intensity – especially in the closing repeats of ‘I am my father’s son’, while ‘New Slang’ now has a sprinkling of chamber pop stylings to add to those oh-so gorgeous melodies.
