For Those I Love – ‘No Scheme’

For Those I Love (David Balfe) has shared new single ‘No Scheme’ – a spiritual successor to ‘Top Scheme’, the emotional centrepiece of his self-titled debut album – ahead of the release of new record ‘Carving the Stone’ on 8 September.

Contrasting a cathartic and hedonistic teenage life with the mundanity of modern life (‘We’ve all got real jobs and we’re bored’) against a series of stabbed beats and electronica that morphs into something wildly experimental and industrial – think Meryl Streek putting the world to rights while jamming with 65daysofstatic – it’s a brutal yet self-aware takedown of the hypocrisies of modern life.

Trying to keep up the punk and activist spirit while struggling (and needing!) to stay financially secure is something we can all relate to, with David saying: ‘Hypocrisy, complacency, and culpability are all present, but so too is a search for justice or meaning in an increasingly confusing time.’
