Fitting somewhere between electronica and hardcore punk with plenty of irreverent humour to boot, Leeds act Adult DVD are set to release their self-titled debut album via Fat Possum on Friday 25 September, 2026.

‘Do As I Please’ opens the record with a groove and drumming that brings to mind Happy Mondays before morphing into something more electronic with squelching hooks and stop-start synths, all while the band demand: ‘Just put on a show’. ‘Coffin Dodger’ follows with an LCD Soundsystem-meets-Getdown Services electroclash feel and tongue-in-cheek yet instantly relatable lyrics: ‘I don’t want to miss the party of my life. I come for the buffet, I’ll stay if it’s nice’; ‘Call me egotistical, I want to see my funeral’.

‘Cold Caller’ heads more into a danceable indie-rock direction with the band embodying sleazy characters: ‘Trust me when I say I’m the best. I scammed your family’. The brilliantly named (a theme of this album) ‘Minimal Criminal’ follows in this path with musings on green energy, eating off proper plates and a desire to ‘Turn that music down. I fucking hate heavy metal’. ‘Jesus Christ Supercar’ takes you back to the New York post-punk sound of the early 2000s and again a distinctly British tone: ‘I don’t like eggs, I went to New York, but they didn’t have a Greggs’.

‘Cowboy on Aisle Three’ has a powerful singalong yet melancholic edge – ‘Just a cowboy, checking out, down on his luck’ – while ‘World’s Best Boss’ is the latest in a long line of songs about how demoralising a toxic workplace can be: ‘Jokes on you, I stole all your pens, all your fucking pens’; ‘I told my boss ‘I don’t care what you say”. ‘Ghillie Sound’ heads back into a more dancey and scratchy sound that will make people lose their minds, before the bass-led ‘Real Tree Lee’ throws in some ‘XTRMNTR’-era Primal Scream vibes for good measure: ‘He’s a born-again incel’. Following this, ‘Rolling Face’ finishes the record in blissed-out style.

With their self-titled record, Adult DVD are proving to be a band you won’t want to skip.
