Wild Beasts – Wanderlust

A New Year and not only do we already have a new Springsteen album on the way, but now Wild Beasts have made a most-welcome return to the music scene with the announcement of their long-awaited fourth album, ‘Present Tense’ (out 24 February on Domino Records). 2011’s ‘Smother’ saw the band effortlessly seam into the public consciousness, highlighted by their brilliant headline set in the Park at Glastonbury, when they drew a sizeable crowd despite a clash with Coldplay.

‘Wanderlust’ finds the band veering into an electronica-tinged soundscape while Hayden Thorpe’s distinctive falsetto floats over the top. At times it has an industrial feel, but there’s also a glacial pop sound that backs up what is sure to be one of 2014’s most defining musical statements: ‘Don’t confuse me with someone that gives a fuck’.
