Ahead of their eagerly awaited new album ‘Dust and Disquiet’, available from Big Scary Monsters in September, Caspian have unveiled incredible new track ‘Sad Heart of Mine’. Very piano-driven to begin with, there is over a minute of subtle build-up as drums weave gently into the soundscape. There’s a cinematic quality to the song, drawing in influences like Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds to make something really quite grand.
Around the one-and-a-half-minute mark, guitar reverbs are thrown in while the drums begin to crash with more purpose. A sweet and childlike quality is retained throughout as the song evokes the spirit of an edgier Lights & Motion mixed with the relentless creativity of Yndi Halda. The big ending does indeed come before it settles down into something more delicate to finish. A new Caspian album is a very exciting prospect.
