Roxy Girls – ‘Trials and Tribulations’

Following stellar support from 6Music and shows with bands including Flamingods, Mush and Crocodiles, Sunderland four-piece Roxy Girls have signed to Moshi Moshi Records and announced details of their forthcoming mini album ‘A Poverty of Attention’ (pre-order here).

‘Trials and Tribulations’ is the first song to be taken from the release and finds the band in fine fettle. Recorded with David Brewis of Field Music, the spiky track starts with a killer riff as frontman Tom Hawick discusses the perils of modern life and the things that he has learned from watching documentaries about the KGB and books about the ‘people who did the things I do 20 years before me’. He then starts talking about getting lost in his own head while the the song ups the pace and captures some of the post punk-yet-flowing melodies of early Maximo Park or Television.
