Squid – ‘The Cleaner’

Hotly tipped disco punks Squid have announced details of new EP ‘Town Centre’ (out via Speedy Wunderground on 6 September/physically on 15 November) and shared the video for new single ‘The Cleaner’.

Invoking the spirit of The Rapture with its eminently danceable hooks, the 7-minute beast was inspired by a move to London and the struggles of adjusting to the pace and lifestyle of a capital city as they talk about mundane things about working extra hours to be able to afford to dance with someone and the loneliness that comes with a big move: ‘No one knows my name’.

The song breaks down to a hush around the 5-minute mark before a Talking Heads-style bass line brings it back with increasingly impassioned vocals and a post-punk feel…
