Alf Whitby – ‘Mountain (For Change)’

Alf Whitby Mountain (For Change)

My Little Empire Records signing Alf Whitby has shared ‘Mountain (For Change)’, the final track to be released ahead of his eagerly awaited debut record ‘Sistine Dreams’ (out on 13 March).

Opening with Hayden Thorpe-style piano stabs, the short and emotional 2 and a half minutes finds Alf pondering the surprising (to him) end of a friend’s relationship. In the PR, Alf says ‘I thought that this couple had everything I was looking for’ and reveals how the precarious nature of love is ‘something to be both awed and feared’. As the song progresses, it enters into the realm of Sufjan-style dream pop complete with stirring, goosebump-inducing strings as Alf ponders how ‘nothing’s that simple, with structural faults, that’s why love’s the sacrificial stone’.
