Chappaqua Wrestling – ‘Football’

Following praise from NME, DIY and BBC 6 Music, Brighton duo Chappaqua Wrestling have shared new single ‘Football’.

Opening with 45 seconds of fuzz that makes way for a circular and woozy riff that is reminiscent of Evan Dando or Cloud Nothings, the song finds lead singer Charlie Woods trying to figure out his place in a specific social circle – and indeed whether he wants to actually be part of it: ‘George talks of stardom. He wears red, green, yellow tartan and that’s me out. ‘Cause I hate your friends’. As the guitars swirl around in a euphoric state, Charlie powerfully sums up his state of mind with intent: ‘I’m so sad because I need to be’.
