Sunderland’s Roxy Girls have shared new single ‘Sister Fatima’ ahead of the release of new EP ‘Roxy Girls Are in the Drink’ on 27 August via Moshi Moshi Records. The band have already played shows with The Murder Capital, Flamingos and Thee MVPs in addition to receiving plaudits from BBC 6 Music, DIY and NME.
Written during the isolation and frustration of lockdown, the songs on the new EP were all recorded live and take influence from punk and art rock bands like Buzzcocks and XTC. ‘Sister Fatima’ drives forward with its potent power-pop melodies and reminded us of The Futureheads with its dual vocals, wonderfully wonky guitar hooks and storytelling about the character of Sister Fatima and how ‘She’s happy just sleeping, she’s happy just sleeping all day through’.
