Life – ‘Turning In’

Life have shared ‘Turning In’ ahead of the release of upcoming fourth album ‘ABSTRACT/NATURAL’ via Launchpad+ and EMI North on 19 June, 2026.

Showcasing a more restrained and reflective side to the Hull band, the song finds vocalist Mez Sanders-Green sharing his thoughts on fatherhood and how the most surprising comment from a child can change how you view things: ‘It’s about me and my lad hunkered down in a tent (on the Isle of Mull) and waking to hear him chatting outside. He told me he was talking to a heron. To this day I don’t know if he was – whenever I see a Heron I now get goosebumps. The universal theme is about togetherness; fitting together, sharing moments, and always wanting to be there for someone you love.’

Opening with electro-infused hooks that fall somewhere between New Order and Bombay Bicycle Club, Mez remembers his trip with fondness – ‘At night we fit so perfectly, hand in hand I know we dream, we do’ – over more menacing guitar before things take a cyclical and psychedelic turn as the words ‘I wake to hear you humming outside our tent in Mull, my boy the Gidge by the stream’ are repeated with increasing intensity and passion in the song’s final throes.
