Broken Records have made a welcome return with new single ‘You Won’t Be There’, ahead of the release of their fifth album later in the year on J Sharp Records. Inspired by the ‘Automatic for the People’-era R.E.M. with hints of The National or Frightened Rabbit, the song is gently stirring as frontman Jamie Sutherland recalls poignant memories and the concept of mortality, repeating the words ‘You won’t be there’ with a rawness while also examining the power of grief and loneliness and the effect both can leave on you.
