It is morning in Cardiff and I wake up entirely entangled with Ollie on a friend’s sofa. On the floor next to me is our videographer and professional pal Sam. Normally I take a little while to wake up but on tour I get hit by a wave of anxiety and excitement (easy to mix…
‘Time is a Riddle’ is a hugely appropriate title for Luke Sital-Singh’s new album, which follows up his 2014 debut ‘The Fire Inside’. Released via Raygun Records and Red Essential, it’s an album that examines the nature and concept of time and probes at every element of a successful (or not so successful) relationship. Lead…
Birmingham trio Maybe Don’t have signed to the awesome Odd Box Records to release ‘At Owl Mansion’, a three-track EP which will be released as a limited edition EP (only 100 are being made!). Following on from their self-released cassette last year, it’s also available to stream and download via Bandcamp. With talk of dirty…
Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Mutual Friends are set to release an EP called ‘Instant Gratification‘ on Bandcamp and we’re honoured to be hosting the video premiere here on Spectral Nights. An emo four-piece who have a dreamy outlook, the four-minute song is very fantastical and seems to combine elements of Beach House or Mercury…
Agnes Obel – ‘It’s Happening Again’ If you’ve listened to 6Music over the past few weeks, you’re bound to have heard this deeply affecting song from Agnes Obel. Fizzy Blood – ‘Animals’ Opening with Reuben-style riffs and vocals that nod to Future of the Left, Fizzy Blood’s ‘Animals’ wastes no time in telling you how ‘we’re all just animals’. Living Body – ‘Choose’ A Leeds supergroup formed by members of Sky Larkin, Vessels and Juffage, Living Body’s new track is a Life Without Buildings-style anthem that is full of melodic angst. The words ‘Get out while you can’ are repeated over and over again, while there is also something excitingly orchestral in the sound.…
Regina Spektor – ‘Small Bill$’ It’s so good to have Regina Spektor back and this new single opens with some Bond-style atmospherics. While the video is wrapped up in Yellow Submarine-style themes, the subject matter is far darker. There’s talk of ‘all the poets in the alley coughing up blood’ and how ‘everyone wants their…
Megan Landry – ‘Questions (on the Cliff)’ A proudly independent Canadian artist, Megan Landry tackles a host of political and environmental issues in Questions (on the Cliff). Opening in a Regina Spektor style, the offbeat aesthetic is accompanied by lyrics covering everything from graves to ‘sleeping in the bed you made’. Falling somewhere between Fight…
